James A. Diegel, MSHSA, FACHE
Jim Diegel hails from Michigan and graduated from Michigan State University in 1982 with a B.S. in the Physical Sciences with a coordinated major in Biochemistry. After completing his undergraduate education, Jim served in the U.S. Peace Corps in the Philippines for two and a half years. In 1988, Jim received a M.S. in Health Service Administration from St. Mary’s College of California.
Jim completed an administrative residency at the prestigious Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, California, followed by a number of top hospital administration positions in different locations, including the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and Ephrata, Washington. More recently, Jim served as the CEO of the former Central Oregon District Hospital (now St. Charles Redmond) and was a principal architect of the merger between the Redmond and Bend hospitals in 2001. He currently holds the position of President and CEO of St. Charles Health Systems, a four hospital regional health delivery system in Central Oregon.
Jim has been an active community member throughout the years, serving on numerous boards and commissions at the local, state, and national level, and in elected offices (Redmond City Council and Redmond School Board). He currently serves on the board of the Oregon Hospital and Health System Association, Region 9 Policy Board for the American Hospital Association, and the Joint Health Commission for the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs Reservation.
Jim and his wife, Vicky, reside in Redmond. They have two adult sons: Justin is a first year medical student and Julien is a first year academic research technician and graduate student.
